In the two readings I found a lot of great tips (yes, I will define what I mean and not keep it this generic) and I do think that many of us might think ourselves better at self representation/rhetoric than we actually are. I found the "Murder!" text quite interesting, since it really shows us how much we have in our minds even though we might think us not knowledgeable. But it also showed me that we easily jump to conclusions -or simply follow a frame- rather than stop and think about what we are actually writing. Being able to understand and respect different genres, as well as their content (jargon, formality, etc. etc.) will make us better writers as well as better individuals in the sense that we may make more rational decisions in life. In text numero dos I found the same thing as in "Murder!". It is easy for us to pretend something, but it is harder to really do it. Anyone can put on a mask and pretend do be someone, but to actually understand it it takes more work. The chapter emphasizes the importance of research, and of not lying, when writing about something, and I think that is a very good point. We can only represent ourselves, the trick is how to do it so that we can be seen with respect from many different points of view.
Over and out

WOW, you are a good writer. Yes, I feel we can limit our self by staying in the box of rules and conventions to please the professor by pumping out what is necessary for the paper. After reading the last several papers for class I can see how limited I have been in the past without exploring or reaching deeper for more descriptive details. I have tons of journals going back to my teenage years, but when I started English classes the professors tried to change my ways of writing and I felt more stuck which limited my abilities of expression. Becoming open minded will enhance my writing.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way! I love to write, but I do feel very constricted to the different conventions of writing. I want to write how I want, without rules or constraints, so I struggle writing research and academic papers, because I want more freedom. I use to write a lot and I stopped as I got older because I did not like the rules of academic papers. It kind of took away the pleasure of writing for just writing. I am starting to enjoy writing research papers now, because I am writing about things that I want to learn more about, so it is nice. I also understand why we need conventions and rules for certain types of writing, so its a catch 22 for me almost.
